Hi, I'm Doreen, a parent and carer who knows first-hand how overwhelming the SEND journey can be. I built Send Help Hub as a place where families can find practical support, clear guidance, and a friendly hand to hold through the parts that feel impossible to manage alone. I'm passionate about contributing to a world that doesn't treat people with disabilities as a second thought.
I trained as a Paediatric Nurse, and worked in recovery and oncology at Great Ormond Street Hospital. I also spent a short time as a PIP nurse assessor, reviewing medical, functional, and social evidence to write clear, fair reports.
Alongside this, I've been a carer for over 15 years, raising a child with complex additional needs. I know what it's like to juggle appointments, forms, school meetings, and endless decisions, while also holding down a career - or setting it aside and staying present for the people around you.
I home schooled my child for 2.5 years. In that time, we worked hard together, adapting subjects like times tables and English that he found difficult, and I watched his reading go from Oxford Reading Tree level 2 to level 8 in about a year.
Through secondary school, I worked closely with his teachers and SENCO to adapt his work in a way he could understand better, so he could be his best.
I have dyslexia myself, which shapes how I explain things: clearly, simply, and without jargon. I've spent years building relationships with SENCOs, teaching assistants, and teachers, and I know how much smoother things go when everyone communicates well.
I recently completed an MA in Economics and Public Policy, researching how workplace and support systems affect families like mine.
In 2026, Send Help Hub won first place at the University of Essex's Dragon's Den competition, supported by Santander and Essex Startups. Send Help Hub is where my research, nursing background, and lived experience as a parent all come together, to make life a little lighter for other families walking this path.
